ROUTES is an Arts Council England (ACE) lottery funded community arts project which aims to engage rurally and culturally isolated communities in East Devon with their local natural environment using multi-disciplinary creative practice. It will develop a process of co-creation with these communities that seeks to forge a strong partnership of collaboration between community, cultural and landscape partners.

OVERVIEW

Over the year, on behalf of the National Landscape, Double Elephant Print Workshop artist Emma Molony will work with a range of creative facilitators and organisations, as well as the non-arts sector, to co-deliver a series of accessible and inclusive art experiences for schools, families, community and marginalised groups.

The projects will focus on a number of key countryside locations and sites, building on partnership working and exploring delivery methods that can be replicated across the National Landscape longer-term through future funding programmes and support.

Additional funding support has been secured from Northbrook Community Trust and Norman Family Charitable Trust.

ACTIVITIES & RESOURCES

Pebbled Heights, Mossy Depths

Join artist and writer Ellen Wiles on a literary soundwalk and connect with the East Devon landscape, wherever you are.

Reflecting the experience of being on a long walk – sparking memories, thoughts and sensations – this literary soundwalk loosely follows part of the East Devon Way, and moves through a rich variety of landscapes; exploring the nature, landscape, wildlife, and layers of history that make this place unique.

Visit www.ellenwiles.com for listening tips and bonus tracks. You can also download the soundwalk in individual sections.

Commissioned by Double Elephant and East Devon National Landscape as part of the ROUTES project, curated by artist Emma Molony, to connect people and nature. Funded by Arts Council England.

OBJECTIVES

This project will form an integral part of developing East Devon National Landscape’s approach to enabling an emotional connection to nature under our commitment to nature as pledged in the NANational Landscape Colchester Declaration.

It will also link with the NANational Landscape National ‘Art in the Landscape’ Strategy and a key aim to connect people to nature and the natural beauty of the National Landscapes, increasing creativity, wellbeing and pro-environmental behaviour.

Part funded by the Arts Council England (ACE), the project activities will meet key ACE outcomes for Cultural Communities: Villages, towns and cities thrive through a collaborative approach to culture and Creative People:  Everyone can develop and express creativity throughout their life
